چکیده

We report on the analysis of archival ASCA, ROSAT and BeppoSAX data of PSR B1055−52, PSR B0656+14 and Geminga, performed in order to investigate the reality of the putative ∼ 10–20 arcmin wide X-ray pulsar-wind nebulae recently proposed to exist around these pulsars. In all these cases, the ROSAT and/or BeppoSAX data show that the diffuse and clumpy X-ray nebulae found by ASCA can be resolved in the contribution of unidentified point sources, unlikely related to the pulsars.

HST observations have contributed significantly to our knowledge on the behaviour of Isolated Neutron Stars (INSs) as optical emitters. First, HST has been instrumental both to discover new optical counterparts (PSR B1055-52, PSR B1929+10, PSR B0950+08) and to confirm proposed identifications (PSR B0656+14). Second, HST multicolor photometry provided useful information to characterize the optic...

XMM-Newton observations of PSR B0656+14, PSR B1055-52 and Geminga have substantially increased the statistics available for these three isolated neutron stars, so apparently similar to deserve the nickname of " Three Musketeers " (Becker & Trümper, 1997). Here we shall take advantage of the EPIC statistics to perform phase resolved spectroscopy for all three objects. The phase-averaged spectrum...

Pulsar B 0656 + 14 a Very Nearby Rrat Source ?

The recently discovered RRAT sources are characterized by very bright radio bursts which, while being periodically related, occur infrequently. We find bursts with the same characteristics for the known pulsar B0656+14. These bursts represent pulses from the bright end of an extended smooth pulse-energy distribution and are shown to be unlike giant pulses, giant micropulses or the pulses of nor...

A deep search for pulsar wind nebulae using pulsar gating

Using the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) we have imaged the fields around five promising pulsar candidates to search for radio pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe). We have used the ATCA in its pulsar gating mode; this enables an image to be formed containing only off-pulse visibilities, thereby dramatically improving the sensitivity to any underlying PWN. Data from the Molonglo Observatory Syn...
